Playing guide

Choose a shape and a readable guide

Trace It! is a shape tracing game with 18 shapes across Beginner, Intermediate, Hard and Expert. Beginner uses a bolder, wider guide; higher difficulties make the guide softer and thinner while introducing more demanding paths. Start with a line, circle or square to learn the drawing area, then move into spirals, stars and other shapes when you want a steadier challenge.

Draw one deliberate stroke

Press on the canvas with a mouse, finger or stylus, follow the guide, then release to finish the stroke. Keyboard drawing is not supported. Smooth movement and a complete path matter more than speed: the score compares the line you made with the target instead of rewarding a fast finish. If a curve drifts away, release, read the score and try the same shape again.

Use the score as a practice tool

The result breaks a trace into useful parts such as outline accuracy, coverage and how well the proportions and endpoints fit the target. A high score is easier to build by slowing down at corners, keeping loops even and finishing the full shape than by adding extra scribbles. Choose Random when you want a fresh prompt, or repeat one challenge to improve your personal best.

Common questions

Can I trace with a touch screen or stylus?
Yes. Trace It! accepts a primary mouse, touch or pen stroke in the drawing area.
Does drawing faster improve the score?
No. The score is based on how your completed line matches the selected guide, not on how quickly you finish.
Must I trace clockwise or start at a particular point?
Either direction works. For a closed shape such as a circle, start on the guide and finish back at your starting point. For an open shape such as a line or spiral, begin at either endpoint and finish at the other. Completing the path matters; repeatedly tracing over it does not earn extra credit.
How many difficulty levels are there?
There are four: Beginner, Intermediate, Hard and Expert. Harder options use fainter, narrower guides and more challenging shapes.
